BUILDING BODY, MIND AND SPIRIT

BUILDING BODY, MIND AND SPIRIT

Like anything in life, true fruit of our labor is expressed when we develop consistent habits over time.  Does anyone build a muscular physique by only going to the gym once per week to strength train?  We must adhere to a more frequent fitness schedule to truly reap the rewards of our effort and establish a habit-based approach which yields the greatest benefits.  Not only will showing up daily result in better gains, it helps us to develop a lifestyle of consistent, healthy habits that benefits our entire body, mind and spiritual growth.  Even the national committees of fitness and strength recognize the benefits of habitual exercise as it pertains to maximizing our cardiovascular health and to mitigate disease.  For example, the AHA (American Heart Association) recommends 150 minutes of walking or cardiovascular activity a week. Note the guidelines do not say 20 minutes per week.  That said, a once per week regimen is a great baseline or starting point that each and everyone of us can build on to eventually foster a lifestyle of both frequency and duration, that bears the greatest fruit(benefits) to our health.

Similarly, as a Christian man, I can’t expect to reap the rewards of the life lessons that the bible provides if I only read and pray once per week. The bible is coined as, “the bread of life,” but we can’t be fully nourished if we only read or feed off its content once weekly.  So, you may ask yourself, “How do I build or establish these habits?” My answer to this question follows the motto of Nike, “just do it.” We can’t listen to our negative voices of procrastination or be led by our emotions, as they change daily and often lie to us.  Will power always fails and will not bring sustainable change.  There will be many times, including for me, that my inner voice will tell you you’re too tired or I’ll just start tomorrow.  Resist listening to those voices but choose to push through to develop those habit-based approaches that inevitably will lead to victory in your life.  It’s human nature for your mind to stay in comfort or to resist change but it all starts with discipline to say today is the day I establish change.

Like I mentioned earlier, a muscle development doesn’t occur with once per month resistance training.  True growth is developed first through pushing through those voices of procrastination and secondly to establish a training program of frequency over time.  Furthermore, to establish the fruit that the bible provides, we must show up daily to feed off the bread of life. Remember, just the very act of showing up daily, even if it’s briefly, will eventually grow into a habit-based lifestyle that will yield meaningful fruit of your labor.

Be Blessed.
